Books: Everything on the Shelf, Sorted
This is the shelf.
Everything here falls into one of two piles, and I think most people who love books have the same two. There are the ones you disappear into — read in one sitting, finish at an hour you will not admit to, immediately need the sequel. And there are the ones you leave out on purpose, because they are beautiful objects and because a room with books in it is a better room.
The first pile is mostly romantasy and romance at the moment, with nonfiction turning up whenever I need a break from invented politics. The second pile lives on the coffee table and gets rearranged more often than is strictly reasonable.
Both piles are below, sorted by what you might actually be in the mood for. It is a work in progress and it always will be.

If you only read one
Eleven ways into the genre that has eaten the bestseller list, sorted by what you already like rather than by what is selling. Dragons, slow burn, folklore, low spice, and three standalones for anyone who does not want to sign up to a five-book series on a first date.
It is the newest thing here and the one I would hand to someone who says they do not read fantasy. Roughly half the list is for exactly that person.
The shelves
Romantasy
Dragons, faerie courts, and the slow burn everyone is shouting about. The beginner's guide is the whole shelf in one post — eleven entry points with paperback, Kindle and Audible editions for each, plus a plain-English note on spice levels, since the covers tell you nothing.
Romance and rom-coms
Currently living inside the romantasy guide rather than standing on its own, mostly at the softer end: Divine Rivals for wartime letters, Emily Wilde for academic bickering that takes two hundred pages to become anything else.
Nonfiction
Memoir, nature writing, and the occasional book about why we are the way we are. The fall reading list is where most of it sits — Braiding Sweetgrass, Women Who Run With the Wolves, and a couple of mysteries that snuck in.
Audiobooks
The format that makes reading possible on a day with no sitting down in it. Nearly every title in the romantasy guide has an Audible edition linked next to it, and the standout is Legends & Lattes, read by the author, who narrates for a living and it shows.
Kindle reads
Long series, heavy hardcovers, and the discretion of a screen that does not broadcast its cover to the train. A good number of the romantasy titles turn up in Kindle Unlimited, which makes trying the genre nearly free — the reading nook guide covers the device itself and the two cases worth buying.
Bookish accessories
Lights, blankets, book stands, bookmarks that are not receipts, annotation tabs, a reading journal, and the sixteen-ounce mug that buys you most of a chapter before you have to get up. Mostly under thirty dollars, and ordered by how much difference each one actually makes — which is not the order you would guess.
Home decor books
Nine that earn their place, sorted by the kind of room you already have, plus the stacking rules — three books, largest at the bottom, offset, spines to the sofa, something small and heavy on top. Two Floret flower books in there for obvious reasons.

One housekeeping note
Every book listed in these guides was checked against its live Amazon listing before the post went up, and formats are only listed where they genuinely exist — which is why the coffee table books have no audiobook links and never will. Prices are deliberately not quoted anywhere in this section, because book prices move weekly and a stale number is worse than no number.
